For over 100 years, traditional laboratory casework has been available as fixed base cabinets and wall cabinets with epoxy resin counter tops. Lab cabinets are most often made of wood, steel, polypropylene and plastic laminate. If the laboratory casework is made by a quality manufacturer who specializes in laboratory furniture, the surfaces will be finished with chemical resistant paints and finishes. Quality lab cabinets are made to last the life of the lab facility, able to withstand harsh chemicals like acids and constant use in an active commercial laboratory found in schools, health care facilities, university research labs, industrial labs and institutional labs.
Cabinets are available in sitting, standing and ADA heights, various widths and depths. Door and drawer configurations are endless depending on storage needs. Traditional lab casework is most often used today as base cabinets to mount fume hood structures, for sink locations and for specialized, heavy, vibration sensitive instrumentation that requires service connections.
Counter tops designed for lab research, writing, computer work, wet areas, and exhaust fume hoods are available in many materials depending on design and function needs. Some counter top materials include epoxy resin, plastic laminate, solid surface, and phenolic resin. All offer distinct design, chemical resistance, cost and functional advantages and disadvantages.
Laboratory casework has evolved over the decades from traditional fixed cabinets mounted to the floor and walls to modular, adaptable, mobile furniture that can be easily moved and reconfigured as the needs of the lab change. Lab cabinets and lab benches today are commonly outfitted with wheels for mobility so researchers can move around the lab to collaborate and station at various instruments throughout the lab. Most labs utilize a combination of fixed lab casework and modular lab furniture. Lab cabinets can be custom designed for client applications or standard cabinets that are ready to install today.
